A court of India’s dreaded National Investigation Agency (NIA) has awarded death penalty to seven Muslims on a fake case filed against them by the BJP government in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Those who have been awarded death sentence are Muhammad Faisal, Ghaus Muhammad Khan, Muhammad Azhar, Attique Muzaffar, Muhammad Danish, Muhammad Saeed Meer Hussain and Asif Iqbal alias Rokey.

The Indian agency dubbed them as operatives of ISIS and implicated them in the Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train blast of March 7, 2017 in which nine persons were seriously injured.

Another Muslim, Muhammad Atif alias Asif Irani, has been given life imprisonment by the NIA’s special court in the case.

The court had convicted the detained Muslims on February 24. They had pleaded that they had already been in jail for over five years and as such the court must show leniency in awarding sentence to them. Rejecting their plea, the court said that they waged a war against the country and hence they were not entitled to any leniency.
