In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the distribution of cow urine under the label of “ayurvedic” medicine has triggered strong protests by the local population who considers urine as haram.
The cow urine has been prepared by the department of Ayush and is free distributed at many centres across the Kashmir Valley.
Sanjeevani Vati, a polyherbal preparation of ten ingredients, equally mixed with ‘Gau Mutra’ or cow urine is being distributed free of charge to the people in Kashmir, as part of Ayush Bharat free medicine campaign.
Produced and marketed by Uma Ayurvedics, Sanjeevani Vati comes in a tablet form and is used to “treat” irritable bowel syndrome (Dyspepsia), worm infestation, cough, cold and headache.
A medico, wishing anonymity, said the doctors and other subordinate staff have been ordered to hold free medical camps to ensure Sanjeevani Vati is distributed to as many people.
However, he said no other medicine partly or equally prepared with Gau Mutra (cow urine) is available at any Ayush center except Sanjeevani Vati.
“Only this medicine consisting of cow urine is available in the stock at some centers,” he said
