Iraq emerged victorious in its eight year war with Iran, killing almost a million Muslims besides destroying billions of dollars of infrastructure in the two countries.
Israel was alarmed and wanted to destroy the battle hardened Iraqi war machine. The result was Israel and its war partners United States, Britain and France jointly conspired and used the US Ambassador in Baghdad April Gaspie to trick Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to invade Kuwait. April Gaspie told Saddam during her controversial 25 July 1990 meeting with him that “WE HAVE NO OPINION ON ARAB CONFLICTS, LIKE YOUR BORDER DISAGREEMENT WITH KUWAIT” indicating the US would take no official position on such disputes.
Senator Patrick Leahy D. Vermont accused her of giving Saddam Hussein a “green light” to invade. Saddam Hussein who precipitated the Iraq Iran War despatched troops into Kuwait on 2 August 1990 and triggered the Kuwaiti crisis.
President George Bush Sr, who blocked every effort to settle the crisis by peaceful means, used threats and even bribed poor countries to join its war coalition of 32 countries.
The US got United Nations Resolution No. 678, authorising the use of force to evict Iraqi forces from Kuwait passed in the United Nations to legalise its war.
Jewish terrorist turned Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir said a few days after the war that, “had the coalition force not taken on Iraq’s military might, Israel would have to fight Saddam on its own in a war of no choice and would have overcome the enemies but at heavy cost”.
Saddam had more than sufficient time to avert the impending catastrophe, but his refusal to withdraw from Kuwait within the UN deadline, January 15 1991, provided his enemies a golden opportunity to implement their designs.
Although the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait had taken the world off guard, one should not forget that successive Iraqi regimes have been claiming Kuwait as an integral part of Iraq for more than half a century. Since 1938, Iraq claimed to administer Kuwait either as an integral part of Iraq or to modify the border to allow Iraq access to Gulf waters.
Speaking out against the Bush administration’s policy in the Persian Gulf, former CIA Agent Philip Agee, said the US wanted a conflict in the Middle East to justify its permanent war economy. The larger picture is the need for … a continuing world crisis to replace the one that had gone on for forty years in Europe, that had been a standoff and that had now disappeared”.
Once the US-led savage air strikes began, the concentration, contrary to UN authorisation, was on the destruction of Iraq and not on the liberation of Kuwait. The massive bombing cut off, within days, essential services such as water, electricity, sewage services and destroyed bridges, roads, schools, hospitals and civilian houses, causing misery to the helpless and voiceless people.
The US led forces tested their latest destructive military aircraft and deadly weapons on the Iraqi people who were roasted like lambs.
The US conducted more than 100,000 bombing raids and dropped more than 200,000 tons of destructive bombs of all types on many civilian targets before starting their ground war on 23 February. Speaking of air strikes an official of the US force had stated that “the air force has been using a kind of scalpel on the Iraqis – cutting here, cutting there, and hoping they’ll bleed to death. What you see here is sledgehammers. We’ll beat their goddamn brains in”.
According to reports, TNT dropped throughout Iraq during the 43 days of bombing was six times more destructive than the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. A disgusted Saudi citizen said it was a war which made the Muslims guinea pigs of Christians and Jews for testing their newly developed sophisticated weapons.
“Don’t worry about Kuwait – it’s a piece of dirt. We’re going after the Iraqi army. Once we destroy them, then Kuwait will be free”. This is how an official of US force described their aggression against Iraq.
The slaughter of Iraqis and the destruction of its army continued unabated before dropping internationally banned napalm and fuel air bombs. In the melee around 500 oil wells were set ablaze.
Using cluster bombs to rip bodies apart, napalm and white phosphorous to cling and burn skin and small nuclear bomb type fuel air explosives to cause other damage, President George Bush Sr. launched one of the most ferocious and destructive bombing campaigns in known history and pushed Iraq to its pre-historic age. The total amount of bombs dropped was far more in excess of the amount of bombs dropped by the allies in the entire World War II. The military campaign, financed by the Gulf States led by Saudi Arabia, incinerated around 130,000 Iraqi civilians.
In the UN the Security Council gave the US a free hand and the coalition forces the right to remain in the region and resume hostilities if Baghdad failed to comply with the demands of the allies. Philip Agee, accompanied by Ramsay Clerk issued a statement saying the United States had committed war crimes by killing at least 125,000 Iraqis during the Gulf War air campaign.
Bush Urged the Iraqi people to rise up and overthrow Saddam Hussein. Iraqis’ did rise up, but George Bush betrayed them when he refused to help the uprising as a weakened Saddam would serve the US interests better.
As proved, within months the Zionists reaped the best of fruits as, one after the other, many countries, pressurised by the US, rushed to establish diplomatic ties with Israel – though an international pariah .
Most of them simply used the opportunity as a pretext to formalise their long-standing secret ties with Israel .This included the former Soviet Union, the Peoples Republic of China, India and about thirty smaller countries. Third World countries, so far sided with the Palestinians and Arabs on principal were disgusted to see some Arab regimes shamelessly tried to please Jewish lobbies as the Road to the Heart of the United States’ administrations.
Exploiting the disarray Bush forced the Arab dictators to sit with the Zionists for peace talks, which still remains a mirage. Dictating its will to the entire Arab world, Israel used these deceptive peace talks to extract the best possible concessions.
A symposium at Georgetown University estimated the total loss to the Arabs from this war at around US$438 billion. According to the Arab League’s economic reports, the loss exceeded US$450 billion covering damage to civilian and military installations, oilfields, power plants and other economic facilities. Later, in August 1992, the draft summary of the Unified Arab Economic Report stated the cost of this war to Arab economies was US$620 billion. Most of the losses came from the destruction of economic infrastructure in Iraq and Kuwait as they lost US$190 billion and US$160 billion respectively. Saudi racist regime alone spent an unbudgeted US$62 billion in 1990 and 1991.
Two years later, in April 1993, Osama Jaffar Fakih, Chairman of the Arab Monetary Fund said in Abu Dhabi that estimated their total losses at US$676 billion. The war left the US unscathed. The Pentagon’s official estimates put the US cost of the war at US$61 billion, but the US managed to reimburse itself with US$52.4 billion from the six Gulf States.
Saudi Arabia alone spent US$60 billion while the Kuwaiti government’s pre-war assets dropped from US$100 billion to US$15 billion in early 1993.
Disgusted with the Saudi regime, many started questioning its Islamic credentials. A number of imams, preachers and Muslim scholars were arrested for expressing their forthright views during the Gulf crisis.
The Gulf War also demonstrated to the world that the United Nations is simply a tool – serving US and European powers to help implement their evil designs on Muslims. The UN’s repeated failures of enforcement even led to the ques¬tion of whether there was really such a thing as international law at all.
Thus the Israeli plan to destroy Iraqi war machine was implemented by US, Britain, France and their shameless Arab stooges such as Egypt’s disgraced dictator Hosni Mubarak, Late Syrian butcher Hafiz Al Assad, Saudi head choppers and other gullible Gulf Bedouin sheiks. This tragedy continues to date as Israel wanted to destroy the entire Middle East to become super power. End
