Tension prevailed in Mathura town in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, today, in the wake of Hindutva organization, Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha’s call for holding pooja (reciting Hindu Bhajan, Hanuman Chalisa) inside Shahi Masjid Idgah.

On Monday, Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha national treasurer, Dinesh Kaushik, said they would go ahead with the call for reciting Hanuman Chalisa inside the mosque on the occasion of the anniversary of the demolition of the historic Babri Masjid in the Ayodhya city of Uttar Pradesh.

Security was beefed up in Mathura following the call of the Hindutva organisation. Nearly 1,500 police, armed constabulary and paramilitary force personnel were deployed and traffic restrictions enforced near Shri Krishna Janmasthan temple and Shahi Masjid Idgah in the town, officials said.

The police arrested the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha leader, Saurabh Sharma, when he was attempting to go towards the Idgah mosque officials said. They said that some other leaders of the organisation including President Rajshri Chaudhary and Treasurer Dinesh Sharma were also detained in their houses in different areas of the city.

It is to mention here that the Hindutva organisation had given a similar call last year but their plan was scuttled by the district administration. The extremist Hindus backed by state apparatus reduced to rubble the historic Babri Masjid in Ayodhya city of Uttar Pradesh on this day in 1992. Through a biased verdict in November 2019, Indian Supreme Court had allowed the Hindus to construct a temple at the site of the historic mosque.
