“You mistrust the Jats, Sikhs and anyone who stands up to you. But as elections are around the corner, you shamelessly put on a pagdi,” Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra said in the Lok Sabha on Thursday as part of a broad attack on the policies of the Modi government. In a speech that was cut short by the chair before her allotted time was over Moitra brought up the government’s raids on opposition leaders ahead of elections, and the targeting of Muslims by Hindu fundamentalists and recent attacks on Christians by the same groups in 19 Indian towns.
