A Muslim man was subjected to custodial killing by the police in Guna district of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

The 30-year-old Izrael Khan was roughed up by the police near his home in the Gokul Singh Chack when he was returning home in a rickshaw after attending a religious congregation in Bhopal. He was interrogated by the police personnel.

When Izrael Khan fell unconscious during the interrogation he was taken to the district hospital. The doctors at the hospital declared him dead.

Israel Khan’s family members, along with other people, protested at the district hospital over his death. They also held demonstrations at the highway with the dead body demanding action against the police personnel involved in the custodial killing.

Later, a judicial inquiry was ordered and an FIR was registered at the Cantt. police station.

Talking to local media, the family members said that the police had beaten him to death during the interrogation at the police station.

“We don’t have any criminal record. My son doesn’t have a criminal record,” said Munawwar Khan, father of Izrael.

The policemen had asked for Rs 1 Lakh from them, but they could afford only Rs 30,000.

“We had arranged the remaining 70,000. But Izrael was killed before we could reach the money,” said a family member.
