Chittoor, Jan 4 (UNI) Former Union Minister and special invitee to the Congress Working Committee (CWC) Dr Chinta Mohan on Tuesday alleged that more than one crore people had died during Covid first and second waves in the country though officially, the Narendra Modi government, had claimed that only four lakh persons succumbed to the pandemic.
Addressing a press conference at Kuppam in this district, he said that spiraling of Omicron cases in the third wave had exposed the failure of both Central and State governments.
The Senior Congress leader said not even 50 per cent vaccination for second dose is completed and the ex-gratia assistance of Rs 50,000 to the kin of those who died of Coronavirus has not been paid yet by the Andhra Pradesh government.
Dr Mohan alleged that Prime Minister’s antics on Covid had taken the country back by 70 years in the face of rising unemployment and falling GDP.
In this background both BJP and RSS were harping on communal tensions like demand to demolish Jinna towers at Guntur, unsavory criticism of Mahatma Gandhi and offering cheap liquor at Rs 50 in the state, the former Minister alleged.
Dr Mohan flayed that during the the last three years the financial condition of Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy headed YSRCP government has badly hit.
He said the YSRCP legislators were openly criticizing Dr Amdedkar and authorities were silent on destruction of NTR statues allegedly by the party leaders.
The Senior Congress leader said it was time for both TDP National President N Chandrababu Naidu and Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to focus on crowning a Balija or Kapu as Chief Minister rather than self-promotion.
