New Delhi-installed administration in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has intensified the ongoing eviction drive to grab the Kashmiris’ land which has been in their possession for generations.

The IIOJK authorities are grabbing the Kashmiris’ land in the name of a so-called anti-encroachment drive. In this regard, public notices have been issued to the Kashmiris in various districts of IIOJK, asking them to vacate the land described as ‘state land’ within seven days or face action.

As per media reports, the officials in Shopian district alone, have marked over 75,000 Kanals (9374.999 acres) of land under various categories of ‘state land’.

As per the officials, over 300 kanal of such land was retrieved in the three districts of Kupwara, Baramulla and Shopian on Wednesday. Besides, the so-called anti-encroachment drive was also carried out in Badgam. The major chunk of land measuring 276 kanal was retrieved in the Drugmulla area of Kupwara district. The district authorities have said that such drives will continue in all parts of Kupwara.

In a similar drive carried out in Baramulla district, 35 kanal of prime land was retrieved at Batpora area in Rafiabad. In addition to this, 2145 Kanals of Kahacharai (grazing) land has been retrieved across the district after a massive eviction drive was launched in all tehsils of the district. In Shopian, 14 kanals of land was retrieved from Daramdoor and Diaroo areas of the district.

The occupation authorities also issued notices in other districts of the Valley, directing people to vacate the land within seven days.

Meanwhile, All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader, Chaudhry Shaheen Iqbal, in a statement denounced in strong terms the confiscation of land and properties of Muslims by the occupation authorities. He said that forced evictions and illegal seizure of land and properties of Kashmiri Muslims was part of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Indian government’s policy to reduce them to second class citizens. He urged the international community to play its role in resolving the lingering Kashmir dispute to save the Kashmiris from the Indian atrocities.

Those keeping a close eye on the situation in IIOJK say that through such measures the Indian government is systematically paving the way for settler colonialism in the territory. They say that after snatching land from the Kashmiris, New Delhi is giving the same to non-locals, and also building housing colonies for its serving and retired army personnel on this land. They maintain the colonization of IIOJK has since long been a dream of RSS and BJP, adding Modi removed the barrier for non-locals to settle in the occupied territory by illegally abrogating its special status in August 2019. The observers believe that Modi’s ultimate aim is to efface Muslim identity and establish Hindu civilization in IIOJK.
