The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter leader, Altaf Hussain Wani, taking a strong exception to the Indian Delimitation Commission’s report has said that redrawing electoral map of occupied Jammu and Kashmir is yet another attempt to disenfranchise and disempower the Kashmiri Muslims.

Altaf Wani in a statement issued in Islamabad, today, while underlining the dangerous consequences of the move said redrawing of electoral maps to reduce the political centrality of the Muslims in IIOJK’s politics has since long been BJP’s dream project. “Redrawing electoral maps is part of India’s systematic settler colonialism campaign to subjugate Muslim majority, minimize its role in decision-making process and provide political mileage to the BJP to enable it to form government in the region so that it could legalize and legitimize the 5th August 2019 controversial decision and the subsequent actions it had taken so far on Kashmir,” he said.

Altaf Wani said, from illegal auction of sand mining to outsiders to regulation for conversion of agriculture land for non-agriculture purposes, settling outsiders in the occupied territory and granting them the right to purchase land under the garb of so-called investment and now redrawing of electoral map of Kashmir is a disastrous recipe that would have serious political ramifications. He pointed out that the process of sidelining the Muslim majority that has begun soon after the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35-A was now given a final shape.

Bringing Jammu provinces at par with Kashmir in terms of number of constituencies, he said, reflected the Delimitation commission’s lopsided and biased approach against Muslims that constitute more than 70% of the total population in IIOJK. The move, he said, would pave the way for BJP to achieve its dream project of installing a Hindu Chief Minister of its choice in the territory.

Altaf Wani termed these actions in violation of the international law and the UN Security Council resolutions on Kashmir. He appealed to the international community to take cognizance of India’s hegemonic designs in the region and force New Delhi to stop its political, cultural and religious onslaught against the Kashmiris.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Pasban-e-Hurriyat, Uzair Ahmad Ghazali, in a statement in Muzaffarabad described the final report of the delimitation panel as the worst conspiracy against the Muslim majority in IIOJK. He said the BJP is dividing the occupied territory on the religious lines.

He deplored that on the one hand, the killing of Kashmiri youth is going on in IIOJK, while on the other the people are being deprived of all basic human rights. He appealed to the Kashmiri people to resolutely fight the conspiracies of the Indian rulers and make collective efforts to safeguard their homeland and Islamic identity.
