University of Pennsylvania law professor Amy Wax has made an extremely inflammatory comment about India on a TV show.

Slamming Indian immigrants who are critical of the US, she said, “There is just a tremendous amount of resentment and shame of nonwestern peoples against western peoples for western peoples’ outsized achievements and contributions”.

“It’s really unbearable.” Wax criticised Indian doctors at Penn Medicine, who she said, “Are on the ramparts for the antiracism initiative for dump on America.”

She singled out the Brahmin women from India. “Here’s the problem,” she said.

“They are taught that they are better than everybody else because they are Brahmin elites and yet on some level, their country is a ‘sh*thole’. … They’ve realised that we’ve outgunned and outclassed them in every way. … They feel anger. They feel envy. They feel shame. … It creates ingratitude of the most monstrous kind.

A video clip of her comments, which was shared to Twitter on April 11, went viral with over a million views. Her comments have drawn criticism from viewers, including her own colleagues and peers.

“Some of us Indian American docs @PennMedicine do our part to make America the great healthcare system you describe. So, yeah, we have the right to criticize it too,” Penn Medicine professor and pediatric urologist Aseem Shukla tweeted in response to the 69-year-old professor’s derogatory comments about India and the Indians.

University of Pennsylvania declined to comment on her latest remarks but said that her views “do not reflect our values or practices.”
