What we saw play out in Gujarat 2002 under [the-then] Chief Minister Modi, we are now tragically seeing play out across India under Prime Minister Modi from lynching to burnings of home lootings to rape, said Sayeeda Hussain Warsi, British lawyer, politician, and member of the House of Lords in a leaked video, quoting a report of the British High Commissioner to India as having said.

In the video, Sayeeda Hussain Warsi, who served as co-Chairwoman of the Conservative Party from 2010 to 2012, seems to be addressing the House of Lords.

“Narendra Modi being described as the butcher of Gujarat with travel bans imposed on him by many including the United States. While, we in Britain imposed a total boycott of Modi refusing to engage with him for a decade. Our assessment of and response to Modi was right at that time,” she said.

“My Lords, India is not Modi, but more importantly, Modi is not what India was envisaged to be. My Lords, Hindutva is not Hinduism; one of the oldest religions in the world practiced for thousands of years rooted in spirituality is one that has always co-existed with other beliefs,” the British politician added.

“Hindutva, on the other hand, diminishes plural secular societies. It is a political and violent ideology from the late 1800s.”

“Discrimination and harassment of Christian, Muslim, Sikh and Dalit communities, attacks on those in inter-faith marriage, the passing of anti-conversion Citizenship Amendment laws, targeted killings, burning and bulldozing of minority homes, desecration of places of worship, boycott of business based on religion and even citing Mother Teresa and her work as a Christian conspiracy are now mainstream [agenda],” she concluded.
