Long-pending Kashmir, Palestine disputes still a reminder of UN’s unfinished agenda: FM Bilawal

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Saturday said that the issues of Kashmir and Palestine had been the unfinished agenda of the United Nations and stressed upon the international community to work together to resolve them peacefully in accordance with the UNSC resolutions.

Addressing a joint press conference with Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha, the Foreign Minister said that they were grateful to the OIC General Secretary for undertaking his first bilateral visit to Pakistan.

He expressed the hope that his visit to Azad Jammu and Kashmir would send a message to the world that the entire Ummah stood united with the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

It would be a stark reminder to the UN and the international community about the long-standing unfinished agenda which required the global community’s collective efforts for peaceful resolution, he added.

About his meeting with the OIC secretary general, the foreign minister said that they held fruitful exchange of views on different issues confronting the Muslim Ummah.

He said that Pakistan attached high priority to the OIC as it had been a collective voice of 57 Muslim countries, the second largest world’s multilateral forum, adding Pakistan firmly supported and deeply appreciated OIC’s role for ensuring social, political and economic interests of the Muslim Ummah.

Speaking on the occasion, the OIC Secretary General, Hissein Brahim Taha expressed his gratitude and said he is grateful to Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for the warm welcome and said the purpose of his visit to Pakistan is to express OIC’s solidarity with Kashmiris.

Hissein Brahim Taha said Kashmiris have been struggling for their rights for decades and the OIC has always raised its voice for the solution of the Kashmir dispute and supported Pakistan on the Kashmir issue. He said the OIC has always supported the right to self-determination of Kashmiris and opposed any illegal action in IIOJK.

He asked India to cancel all illegal decisions taken regarding Kashmir. He said OIC Contact Group has adopted a detailed plan of action on Kashmir and OIC will continue to raise its voice for the cause of Kashmiri people.
