Political horse trading in full swing alleges JVP

Political horse horse trading was in full swing on Friday with rival groups in Parliament throwing money to secure 113 seats in the House to ensure a majority, JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake alleged.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Pelawatte, Dissanayake alleged MPs were switching sides for big money.

“It is the shopping time and wheeler-dealers are very busy. This is not the first time we see MPs sold and re-sold within days. During the 2018 constitutional coup, its creator Maithripala Sirisena himself placed the price of a single backbencher at 500 million rupees. Now the same process is on. Funds amassed by tax evasion and other shady deals are now talking.

“Moneybags switch hands to cobble an interim government. Who could trust such a government built on the money of thieves? We will have nothing to do with such a government formed by MPs who sold themselves.

Asked to comment on allegation that Ranil Wickremesinghe would protect the Rajapaksas, Dissanayake said that they trust the country’s judiciary. “A court has banned 17 people leaving the country. That order was made because the courts have realized the need for it,” he said.
